ARIA BOREALIS: Final

The final is a semi-staged performance featuring theatrical elements. All eight singers selected for the live rounds will appear in both solo and ensemble performances. The orchestra is formed by the Finnish Baroque Orchestra and musicians from fellow Nordic baroque ensembles.

HELSINKI EARLY MUSIC FESTIVAL (HEMF)

In 2026, HEMF will feature the events of the Aria Borealis Competition, concerts, and numerous Boreallas side events.

ARIA BOREALIS

Aria Borealis is a vocal competition developed through Nordic collaboration. The competition’s semifinal marathon will take place on 2 October 2026 in the Paavo Hall of the Helsinki Music Centre, and the semi-staged final will be held on 4 October 2026 in the Concert Hall.

An outstanding group of singers has been selected for the live rounds:

  • Josefine Mindus, soprano (Sweden)
  • Antonia Ortner, soprano (Austria)
  • Maija Rautasuo, coloratura soprano (Finland)
  • Lucija Ercegovac, mezzo-soprano (Croatia)
  • Virgile Pellerin, countertenor (France)
  • Martin Höhler, tenor (Germany)
  • Lucas Zuehl, bass-baritone (United States)
  • Mari Aschehoug, soprano (Norway)

Tickets are now on sale. The eight singers selected for the live rounds are presented on the Aria Borealis website.

BOREALLAS

The vocal competition is surrounded by a lively programme of events. The pre-events and accompanying activities offer a wide range of free musical experiences, panel discussions, participatory art-making opportunities, and much more.
